Aluminium Canoe

Posted on May 18, 2010.
Aluminium CanoeI have an aluminum canoe that I want to fix it?

Then my father this boat thats about as 17ft long and its pretty old and I want to paint it. He will not let me paint it but because he thinks that the scraping and painting it does not ruin me. I read how to do online.

Sand with 80 grit paper to get off the oxidizer
Apply self etching primer aluminum
Paint.

Do you do this to ruin everything?? If so do you have a better way to paint?

Looks like you're on the right track.
Preparation is the key.
A marine supply store will have the equipment you need.
Best regards.

If you do not have to spend a little time, buy polish aluminum mag wheels and a buffer and make it really shine.Did you ever seen the back of 18 tankers Wheeler shine? Thats polished aluminum!

It is not easy to get paint to adhere to aluminum, is what your dad says

If you follow the signs that you may be able to make it work, but keep in mind that most boats used have scratches and dents, etc. These are your hot spots.

The painting will definitely scratch when you hit rocks, sand, etc. However, it could still look good for many years depending on use.

Is Dad sentimentally attached to his old boat? Perhaps half of your fight there!

It will not ruin your boat. Nothing can ruin another canoe with a big rock to come at least 1 inch of water 5 feet!

lol trust me! I just painted my weekend! It seems gr8 and nothing has chipped off or repealed! It is not ruined either.

Your Dad is correct. The painting will fall and a bad image. Why not just polish it?
