How to catch giant squid in California? I am in Southern California at the end of this month. Counted on to go fishing in the ocean (day trips). I heard that the giant squid are present from Ventura to San Diego and I would take a dozen. After all, who does not calimari fries?
Fishers, how can you catch jumbo (Humboldt) squid? bait? Hooks? Secrets ?????
Also, he needs a boat, or can they be regularly caight Wharf?
Normally, they get on the boat party night trips specifically target them, but they come and go. The winter months are generally of better quality, but they can occur at any time, and are increasingly frequent in recent years. These are boat trips - you get them in deep water, and the pillars rarely reach more than 30 feet deep. The hunt for boats as in any school of fish open water.
As some of these critters can get up to 50 pounds, I recommend at least 30 books online. The landings of squid jigs sell these things will recover, and then you play them like a fish and the crew of their horn and put on board. Bring rain gear and closthes that will not ruined by ink - squirt these things!
Audit report ( http://www.976tuna.com/e107_plugins/land ... it seems that the main zone is really them is out of Orange County (Dana and Newport). Call to see when landings trips are scheduled and their cost and other details. (follow the links on the page of the report of fish)
You'll need a fishing license in California (you can buy a one-day license if a single trip).

This is Ventura County, to date, but that's what you're interested in. Flag
obtain a post with at least 20 pounds. test. get a squid jig. You go into the night and shine a light in the water. raise and lower the jig quickly while bringing the bottom up. You can catch more than one at a time.
To see what looks like a squid jig, see my source site. The templates themselves are weighted, so no additional weight required.
