Boat Handling Courses

Boat Handling CoursesCan a 1500 Silverado 2WD handle 7000 pounds of boat on the road and the ramp?

I have a 2005 1500 Silverado with factory tow package and I'm now boat shopping. I found a boat that I like, but with the engine, refuel, and miscellaneous items in the boat, he will be pushing £ 7000. Of course I can look at what the official tow rating is, but I prefer the voice of experience.

Good reality check here: The odds are that, no, you can not legally tow safely or that much weight without overloading your truck.
Here's why:
"A review maximum trailer weight is calculated assuming a base vehicle, except for any option (s) needed to reach the coast, most of the pilot. The weight of optional equipment, passengers and cargo will reduce the maximum trailer weight your vehicle can tow. "
Your maximum tow rating varies depending on what you have ... Cab, Extended, crew, and what you have bed length.
So let's say you have one that is valued at £ 7700. Well, that's the most basic model you can get, plus a driver £ 150. Any weight you add to the van is not the weight of the trailer max. Are you over £ 150? Anything larger your trailer max. refueling? Yep, add 6 pounds per gallon and subtract your trailer.
Taking anyone on the lake with you? Subtract weight. Cooler with ice and beverages? Gear? Options on the truck that comes standard? Sunroof? Sliding rear window? Steps? Big tires? CAP bed?
Yes, all this away from the truck's payload and towing ratings.

You can not exceed one of these three numbers: GVWR, GCVWR, and Max Trailer capabilities.
GVWR is the max your truck is allowed to weigh, fully loaded.
Look in the driver's door on the thumbnail and it will tell you how it is. Curb weight on a 2WD extends from 4225 to 4986 pounds for non-HD models. Again, as a basic model. Driver, passengers, freight, gas, weight language ... add all that weight. GVWR is 6,100 - £ 6,800. Weigh yours as it is, and you'll know how much payload capacity you have left to do.

Gross combined weight rating is the max the truck and trailer are allowed to weigh. He who will get you, the more likely. It is either 12,000 or 13,000, again depending on the exact truck you have.
Then add your tow 7000 pounds curb weight, the same truck as the base-model 4225 (and the truck does not really exist, even in the real world) and you're at 11,225 pounds without passengers, no pilot, no gas tank full, and no cargo, and not a single option on the truck.

So the moral of this story is, no tow truck can really what it is rated to tow the factory if you do the math. There are tons of warnings and notes on all trailer ratings, and if you read it you will realize that the factory tow ratings are fake stuff for sale.
Most professionals like me you should not exceed 85% of the recommended max tow rating.

Can your truck physically pull the load? Yes. Would you be unhappy to do? Absolutely.
Personally, I have A 04 Z71 Suburban and pull a 22ft boat with it, and I would not go at all with this truck. And my sub has at least the same number as your tow truck, but my boat is far 7k lbs.

You need a larger truck.

YOU! it can ... I

£ 7000 would push the limits of what your truck is rated to tow, and a truck 2 WD may have some traction problems, which are responsible for a steep, wet, slippery launch ramp. Also, make sure your trailer brakes are working properly, because the extra weight in the rear will make it more difficult to stop.

If the cost is not an object, I want a 3 / 4.
