I wanted my children to be well versed in the language and communication. They must have a good command of English, be able to read, speak and write well in English, because English was the international language of commerce. Also, I suppose, even high school students knew that China was a rising power and influence has been large, the neighboring Pacific to the Atlantic away. Therefore, other than a good command of English, it is equally important to have a mastery of the Chinese language.
