Donate Your Boat

Posted on June 11, 2010.
Donate Your BoatIf you were a billionaire, you give your money to causes or you go in yourself?

So I guess my real question is what you use your money to make the world a better place where you spend money on things you've always wanted for yourself (for travel, new cars, boats New, new homes, etc.?)

Ok, it's probably a terrible thing to say, but I would probably spend it all on myself. I spent so much that there would be no money for anyone after my death. I do not think a rich man can make a difference in the world. There is no guarantee anyway that all of the money donated by a wealthy man, even to the people he was destined to go. I think if there were a bunch of billionaires who got together and combined their fortunes to donate to worthy causes, could the world be a better place. It's always a possibility. It is a possibility that Ralph Nader has recently introduced. But a rich man could not do it alone.

First, I pay all the bills, shit
do what I must put off.
then I invest ... and charity is involved in this enterprise.
nothing left after that, I am buying a Bailey's and a pack of cigarettes and sitting on the beach of Lake Michigan, across the road.

Well, if you're a billionaire, at least you would spend that money on yourself - rather than "gift" for political candidates who go to war for oil for you, so they can have more Your beautiful "gifts." I think if all the billionaires consistently done, then the world would be a better place.

As for me - that I spend on myself or make a donation to a worthy cause? I would like to donate. As Proudhon said: "Property is theft".

I just want to give money if I could recover from hand to hand.

I spend as I please. After all, it's my money. I would really try to help people to some extent, but I do not want to hand money to charities whose officers could spend it on themselves. I would try to see that I have benefited people in need, rather than crooks who run charities.

I always told myself I'd cut into thirds. A third family + friends, for good causes and for me. At least half of what I had for myself I would like to investments, etc and make it grow, so I can continue the process of dividing into three.

This is not a very good philosophy. If every "rich man (or woman, Thank you) Oh say, I am only one person, I might as well do nothing, then nobody would do anything and nothing would be done definitely.
First, a person can make a difference.
Second, many people can make a difference.
Third "there is no guarantee. Low. If you intend to do with your money means something, then you make it mean something. End of.
Fourth ... The black and white, all or nothing approach is not the only around. Things begin with a particular, and it is not anything or everything (in this argument, incidentally) - I think it is best to start and try to create growth (at the least hope), rather than defeat you by doing nothing.

If I were a millionaire, I would create real sustainable jobs because the jobs to help people that love and jobs for millions more employers.

If you were a billionaire, so your accounting will tell you to do all this to create tax shelters, deductions, etc.

I would not give it all away, but I consider it the greatest privilege of doing something like Bill and Melinda Gates are doing. Using my wealth to benefit the poorest people in the world, as in Africa and elsewhere.
