God does not go mad, God is love! Fortunately, fewer people see God as a tyrant furious that the Old Testament portrays. Since the days of cavemen to today, civilization has moved from a "there is no God" approach to today, where God is seen as a "non-material spirit-being. Using the school as metaphor, civilization has been slowly from kindergarten to the caveman College today, with much work still to be post-graduate encountered.
Caveman kindergartens were only interested in the survival of self. God? What is God?
Cavemen had little or no abstract thought. They existed in being able to avoid most caveman or kill smaller cavemen. The world was a violent place, and living in the day was a dangerous adventure that has maintained a focus solely on the physical material world.
Slowly, as communities began to develop and a true family unit has become more standard, thinking of "other" and longevity of life together has begun to grow. With the development of homo sapiens and his brain, the art has been discovered, developed and improved. Agriculture has become the provider of life more than hunting. The men began to question how all this stuff "has emerged and a god there seemed to be the answer. The elementary school is in full bloom.
Some 3 to 4.000 years, the gods (plural) who were seen because there was room for one god (monotheism) as it should be a hierarchy. The vision of the world has become a concept at three levels. There was a fire below and the sky above us between the two. The stars, sun and moon were holes in the ceiling that lets the light of heaven shine through. Middle School is now in session.
Some 2,000 years ago, Jesus entered a world about to embark on the high school. It was time that people understood more about God, he called father. The message can be received now that God is love. God does not get angry! God does not, he did things that those of middle school thought he did. It was their perception. What we forgot is that the message that Jesus was delivered to a specific audience in a given time, but with more universal concepts for those who want to go to college. Thus, our Bible is a great primer SACRED school.
Ah, but it is now! We are 2000 years removed from high school.
Jesus gave us many clues telling us that there was so much to learn, but we were not yet mature enough to understand. Later, when we arrived at school he would be going and our college professor (called by different names but I like the "Comforter" a) does instruct us on the deeper questions. Hey guys, this is U.S.! :-)
In addition, one of many lessons that God is angry! God does not punish. God is love!
