They continue to play the song as a "name of this thing a bit oldie", then take five callers who try to guess the song. Each caller guess something ridiculous, and nobody ever gets it right. Is it some kind of joke that only the hard core listeners are on?

Yes it is a joke. I have not heard the introduction on it, but I have heard them play the clip. I presume they recount their first listeners to call in later and play-along ... so it's a gag on the audience later 9-9:45. They have done this before.
