| Marketplace | Sailing Lessons TorontoPosted on June 4, 2010. Hello From Sicily - Exploring Stromboli Due to bad weather yesterday we spent the entire day docked at Santa Marina di Salina but we had still a great driving experience during our tour of the island, with expert advice provided by both Locals. Our first Italian lesson had also progressed smoothly and a quiet dinner capped a day occasionally rainy and gray.
Well, today is another day, and when I checked out the boat in the morning, I saw immediately that we had clear skies today. This meant that we would be leaving Salina and sailing on the nearby island of our experience of sailing trip linguistic Stromboli!
When I saw Franco, one of our Italian language teachers Laboratorio Linguistico, leaving the edge of shower wrapped in a towel, it crossed my mind that learning the Italian trip aboard a yacht is certainly a unique experience. Indeed, life boat will take you really close, and notions of personal space and the barriers of shyness seems to be declining, the more time you spend with your friends on board.
Just what kind of environment, and it is indeed very pleasant to move outside comfort zone and let live is something completely different. This was one of the beauties of this unique journey throughout - the unique tight on the sailboat, six friends big ship (God thank you!), And the wonderful experience of gliding through the waters of a beautiful Mediterranean island to another.
Our departure was scheduled for 10:00, so I took a quick walk through Santa Marina, makes it a very picturesque place, especially when illuminated by the morning sun. I had a quick breakfast on board before Herbert, one of my shipmates, took off. He felt a bit sick for some time and would take one of the fast ferries, one of Aliscafi "or hydrofoil to one of the other islands to see a doctor and get medication for his symptoms, Flu-like.
Thus, the other six of us are prepared to sail and we were on the open water to 11 hours. Leaving behind Salina, we sailed from the island of Panarea, which has a gently sloping hill on the eastern side and a precipitous cliff on the west side. The weather could not have been better. The sun was so bright I closed my eyes and began to fall asleep. All of a sudden feeling of intense fatigue overcame me, it was as if all the accumulated stress in my life in Toronto trying to get by, so I withdrew and lay down in my cabin.
When I woke up again that we had actually reached our destination: Stromboli, another island wind, it is distinguished by an active volcano. We anchored our boat off the coast from the island has no port, and Francesco, our boss, got a dirty little prepared we transport the boat to shore. The sale was just big enough to hold three, certainly no more than four people, then in the first trip Francesco picked Claudia, Lorenzo and me while he headed the ship.
I of course intend to do lots of photography on the island, and I just thought God that we do not tip in the small inflatable vessel, since my camera and my memory cards would certainly go . But I would not have been suspicious of the expertise and wisdom of our captain Francesco safely transported all six passengers landed without incident.
In my quest for the pictures I embarked on a personal discovery of Stromboli off, while Claudia and Lorenzo headed off into town as well. I walked the waterfront, before a variety of shrubs, buildings and industrial electricity-only production plant of the island on a promontory overlooking a rock off the coast Stromboliccio (small "Stromboli") of course also of volcanic origin, is uninhabited, but has a lighthouse.
