What a great all around a life vest or life jacket for sailing the Pacific Northwest? I recently bought a sailboat that I love more than life itself - but I am a novice sailor. The boat came with two fought enough life jackets and I want to replace them with something in weight, wonderful, light colored and easy to store. The price is a problem - I saw jackets, hundreds of dollars. What a great all round lifejacket / PFD?
Thank you for your advice!
Several options come to mind. The most comfortable, but those are expensive life jackets (PFDs we call today) that are intended kyaking because they bend easily at the waist. I found ordinary cells of Nice (not like kayaking) to a remarkably low price at Wal-Mart. Do not bother with the horse collars, you and your guests are less likely to use them. I found West Marine was not a good place to buy PFD because of price. Coats lifejacket is good if it is not too hot, but you'll probably be sailing in what we call summer here in the Pacific Northwest, then a life jacket in nylon suits around your torso is the best. They are some for women who enable more chest area too. Those who have a variety of nylon (not just strings) on the sides are better in cold water, but difficult to find.
Good Luck. Try to keep the boat upright, but always wear your PFD in case you hit the arrow and thrown into the sea! If you are new to this then I suggest the manual Royce of sailing. is little, but full of great information.
Life jackets are only. They must turn an unconscious person upright so they can breathe. They are very heavy. Personal Flotation Devices are buoyancy aids. The USCG certify that they meet the minimum requirements of safety when used by a competent person. Need more comfortable PFD you can afford to let you do your sailing. Visit a store and try sailing PFD. Ask questions. A properly fitted PFD is simply life insurance.
although I'm not a pro at this, but I was a lifeguard for three years and a half. Coast Guard approved there it is .... I'm not sure what the price range is for them, but if the life jacket Coast Guard approved words, you should be good!
