Sea Kayak GeorgiaExploring historic lands, the game! South Georgia

The exploration of the historical lands (Antarctic and South Georgia), where change is always measured by the impact of humans on nature - Part 1 - South Georgia

Antarctica is one of those places where history feeds a desire to walk on these grounds, where the first explorers left their mark and perhaps even their souls. Thus, most of the guests aboard Plancius owned by Oceanwide Expeditions, was perhaps not in equal measure, exploration and adventure in mind by joining an expedition to South Georgia and the Antarctica. The two days spent at sea from the Falkland Islands to South Georgia, we are already preparing for a journey that would be more of a personal approach to understand and embody the enthusiasm and thirst for adventure, the first explorers to spare.

Some people who had traveled more than once this frozen continent, were the early birds on our boat, the Plancius a solid boat with graceful shapes, for this type of travel. As this was my second time, I understand the desire and transfixing with this crossing point on our earth. While there are certainly more than one route, the shortest of all, including the Antarctic peninsula, perhaps others including the Weddell Sea or the South Georgia, most of them have in common a shared sense of loneliness that most of us strive in our busy lives from day to day. Never mind the fact that, in total isolation observed nature in its purest form, without bits of paper or waste, except of course the natural left by the Penguins more fun. What an incredible paradise!

After days at sea, go on to become familiar with the shipping environment, such as climbing and descending zodiac, which proved to be an art to master by itself, we were ready to begin our exploration. As we went ashore at Port Stanley, a small English village in search, some people absolutely went out to see rock hopper penguins while others chose the local circuit, which proved to be a barrel of fun . Riding a native of the town, we were entertained by stories of local policy, a school system on education only primary and secondary school, and talked about the fact that it was certainly a small community where everyone knew the personal history. We also enjoyed a magnificent view of the beautifully maintained beaches, where we observe large groups of penguins frolicking of Magellan. Most people later went to the post office where I was amazed to see the most elaborate stamps, near small tables, which of course were all sold for a small fortune.

Some of our travelers, not yet immersed in the spirit of the Antarctic, when we set sail for South Georgia, wallowed a bit on the two days spent at sea, to get there. Yet most of us entertained with interesting lectures and long visits to the bridge where we could find our way, talk to Steve, a keen amateur ornithologist, who I think the sheer magnitude of dreams albatrosses every night. It is also time to try on those silly boots, obviously a need, however, never quite right of assembly, thus giving some passengers a totally different approach from that normally exhibited, more like penguins, we had not yet met.

The rigorous cleaning of our equipment inside and outside, provided some ideas about how a tiny seed that we bring from an outer region can change the future of birds and animals living in Georgia South. Yet the spirit of adventure and exploration endured, as with a little laughter, found more than expected in their pockets and the seams of their jackets and pants.

South Georgia, finally on the horizon, and we were very excited to begin our process of landing. But just a glance at the gate, where we took our dinghies a v.
